86% of Sri Lankans understand the importance of eating healthily, but only 54% give themselves a good rating in eating healthily (AIA Healthy Living Index 2016). Which percentage do you fall in to? Think about it. If you had the choice of a milkshake or a fresh fruit juice to quench your thirst on a warm day in the park, which would you chose?
A typical milkshake (100g) has between 18-27 grams of carbohydrates and sugar, not to forget 3-9 grams of fat and amounts to 119 calories (United States Department of Agriculture nutrient database). So, whilst a yummy milkshake may hit the spot, it definitely isn’t a healthy food choice!
100 grams of fresh fruit juice, assuming it has no added sugars or preservatives contains approximately 54 calories, less than half the calories in a milkshake. A juice will also have about 13-15 grams of carbohydrates and 9-11 grams of sugar, depending on the fruit type, making it comparatively a healthier option to drink. (Of course, we are referring to freshly squeezed fruit juice). In fact, a fresh fruit juice would satiate your thirst and give you an energy boost just as well, if not better than a sweet milkshake.
Making a switch to healthier food options can help you land that great figure you’ve been dreaming about, but more so, it can help you be healthier and fitter overall, in turn having more energy and vitality in your daily life. That is why AIA set out to give people a little nudge towards being more health conscious in their diet. Check out the video on AIA’s Facebook page to see what happened.
